Who we are
This Privacy Policy covers thevccoach.com ("we", "us", "The VC Coach"), a coaching and mastermind program for venture capital emerging managers, partners, principals and associates. It explains what personal data we collect through this site, why, and what rights you have over it.
What we collect
We collect personal data in two ways:
- Newsletter sign-up. When you subscribe on our newsletter page, we collect your first name, email address, your role (Emerging Manager, Partner, or Principal/Associate), and your marketing consent choice.
- Site analytics — only if you accept. We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use this site: page views, clicks, and scroll behavior. It sets cookies and records anonymized session data, but only after you accept analytics cookies. It does not collect the contents of forms unless masking is disabled, which we have not done. See Cookies and similar technologies for the detail.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use one analytics tool on this site, and it does not run until you say yes.
The first time you visit, we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. Nothing analytics-related loads before you answer. If you decline, we clear anything that was set previously and load nothing further. The site works exactly the same either way — declining costs you nothing.
What we use
Microsoft Clarity shows us how people use this site: which pages get read, where visitors stop scrolling, what they click. It records anonymized session data and does not capture what you type into forms. See Microsoft's privacy statement (opens in a new tab).
What gets stored, and for how long
- _clck — Microsoft Clarity. About 1 year. Set only if you accept.
- _clsk — Microsoft Clarity. About 1 day. Set only if you accept.
- tvc-consent — stored by this site in your browser. About 12 months. Records whether you accepted or declined so we do not ask again on every page. This one is stored either way: we cannot remember your choice without it.
Changing your mind
Use Cookie settings in the footer of any page. Accepting starts analytics straight away. Declining clears the Clarity cookies and reloads the page, so nothing keeps running in the background.
What loads regardless
Two things load without asking, because they are needed for the page to work rather than to track you:
- Google Fonts. Our typefaces load from Google's servers, which means Google receives your IP address. We are working on hosting them ourselves.
- Brevo form assets. On the newsletter page, the sign-up form's styles and script load from Brevo. Without them there is no form.
How we use it
We use the data you provide to:
- Send you the newsletter and, if you've opted in, occasional updates about our masterminds, coaching programs and events;
- Understand and improve how visitors use this site;
- Maintain records that demonstrate your consent, as required by law.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for any purpose beyond what's described here.
Legal basis for processing
Where the GDPR applies, our legal basis for sending you marketing email is your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). Newsletter sign-ups use double opt-in: you must click a confirmation link in an email before you're added to our list, which we keep as evidence of that consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing. See Contact us below.
For site analytics, our legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). Analytics is off by default: nothing loads until you accept, and you can withdraw at any time using Cookie settings in the footer, which takes effect immediately. See Cookies and similar technologies above.
Third parties we share data with
We share personal data only with the service providers ("processors") that help us run this site and our newsletter:
- Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France) is our email marketing platform. Brevo stores your name, email, role and consent status, and sends the newsletter and confirmation emails on our behalf. Brevo is based in the EU. See Brevo's privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
- Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation) is our website analytics provider, and runs only if you accept analytics cookies. See Microsoft's privacy statement (opens in a new tab).
- Google Fonts (Google Ireland Limited) serves the typefaces used across this site. Because the files load from Google's servers, Google receives your IP address on every page. This happens regardless of your cookie choice; we are working on hosting the fonts ourselves to remove it.
- Calendly (Calendly LLC, United States) handles coaching call bookings. Nothing is shared with Calendly unless you click through to book, at which point their own privacy policy applies.
- Fillout (Fillout Inc., United States) hosts our mastermind application forms. Nothing is shared with Fillout unless you click through to apply.
We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.
How long we keep it
We keep your newsletter data for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe or withdraw consent, we retain a minimal record (such as your email address and the date you opted out) only as long as needed to honor that choice and comply with our legal obligations, and we stop sending you marketing email immediately.
Your rights (EU / UK, GDPR)
If you are located in the EU or UK, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate data;
- Request erasure of your data;
- Restrict or object to our processing of your data;
- Receive your data in a portable format;
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal;
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Contact us below.
Your rights (US)
Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights under state privacy laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act) to know what personal data we hold about you, request its deletion, correct it, and opt out of the sale or sharing of your data. We do not sell or share your personal data as those terms are defined under applicable state law. All marketing emails we send include a working unsubscribe link, honored promptly.
Children's privacy
This site and our services are directed at working professionals in the venture capital industry and are not intended for, or knowingly directed at, children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
